yinshubackup: (rum!)
well.
today went much better.
I bit the bullet and dropped Chinese. I... feel strangely lighter.
I feel sad that I quit, but on the whole, i know it's a healthier decision. I expect this will help in all my other classes. Sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do.

Other than that, fought with the asshats (to borrow cluegirl's word) at the Office of Incompetent Rude Persons, uh, I mean Bursar. Got them to release my refund check so i can pay my debts to them and regain my 'registered' status. Why did I borrow money to pay you with, if you won't let me pay you with it? Stupid. And why do you encourage all the students on campus to use put books and food on their bursar account, if you won't let us pay the damn bill out of our financial aid money? You think i just randomly have hundreds of dollars i can pull out of my back pocket?
That's what my loan was supposed to be for, dumbass.
oh, and let me get this straight. If I can't cough it up in time, you're gonna charge me ANOTHER $200 for a 'late registration' fee? Oh, that'll help. You must have trained at the DMV School of Customer Service, right?

But, thanks to the help of God, the Bursar woman tripped up and let a clue slip out of how i might get around their 'policy' and enforce what the written legal contracts ACTUALLY say. Of course she shut right up about it, but it was too late, I already caught it.
So then I went and talked to a sweet and nerdy little lady in the financial aid department. She was very helpful. We overruled them and their policies of (in)convenience and got them to release my money. Now I can buy books and supplies. yay! I win.

Also spent a few hours poring over course listings, concentration requirements, my student files, etc. to determine when I might actually graduate and how.
Then had a productive meeting with my advisor in which I layed out my plans to him.
Looks like I might graduate in Dec. '05, with a B.S. of Hospitality Administration with a concentration in Design.

My courses for this semester are tentatively as follows (should know for sure tomorrow whether I got into DEA 150):

[DEA= Design & Environmental Analysis, HA= Hotel Administration, different colleges at this university]

~DEA 150 Intro Human Environmental Relations (psychology of physical marketing, crowd traffic flow patterns, etc.)

~DEA 350 Human Fact: The Ambient Environment (construction issues with lighting, noise vibration, air quality and flow systems, thermal zones, etc. and their effect on the human occupants of a given space)

~HA 236 Culinary Theory & Practice (wtih hands-on Kitchen lab) (Traditional French-style culinary system basics, chemical reactions/interactions of edible substances, microbiology with respect to food safety, menu planning, kitchen team mgmt.)

~HA 211 Intro Human Resources Management (looks like the Prof. for this is a real hard ass.)

~HA 222 Corporate Finance (yet another financial course. blarg. at least this sounds a little more interesting than debits and credits. More like learning to read the market and make investments and that kinda thing.)

~HA 475 Information Systems and Technology (I'm just a T.A. for this class, I took it last semester and did pretty well.)

So. Taking 3 requireds and 2 design electives (but they are also relevant for the design concentration).

and, being really tired now, I think I'll go to bed. It's been a productive day.
