Song to download
Dec. 24th, 2005 12:33 pmTo echo Cluegirl's recent post, here is yet another Christmas song that is both hauntingly beautiful and probably unfamiliar to most of you, even if you've sung/heard/wanted to shoot yourself in the head because you're so sick of/ Christmas music.
My sister just gave this to me, because it was part of the CD that contained all the music for her band's Grand Nationals competition performance. I thought it was beautiful; this is the part that sent shivers down my spine when I watched them perform.
It's a piece called Lux Aurumque, a choral work by Eric Whitacre. It's a Latin translation of an Edward Esch poem, which I will provide for you here:
Lux Aurumque (Light of Gold):
Lux, (Light,)
Calida gravisque pura velut aurum, (Warm and heavy as pure gold,)
Et canunt angeli molliter (And the angels sing softly)
Modo natum. (To the newborn baby.)
here is the link to the mp3:
Lux Arumque (choral version)
There is a winds/orchestral version too (my sister's band actually did a combination arrangement of the winds & vocal), but my internet connection is spotty right now and I can't get yousendit.com to finish loading it, for some reason. If I can later, I'll post the link to that one too.
(please let me know if the link doesn't work...)
