I feel like an electron that's just been dropped into one of those particle accelerator lab thingys. WHOOSH!
This week-- so much craziness- only so many hours
prelims prelims prelims... I hate them Sooooooooo much
my mind wants to leave me, but I've got it on a leash. with some japanese bondage. and a chasitity belt. ARGH, no, must not think about sex.... Must think about corporate finance and spatial relations. grrrr, exams.
must... cram... all in by thursday at 6:00 am...
thursday's my birthday! yay 22! boo 2 prelims. *sigh* boo even more having TA training @ 7:30 am before my first class of the day which takes away not only sleep but extra finance cram time... and we all know how great I am with numbers. I need all the help I can get. whee. Its my birthday, dangit, can't I sleep in, or something? I'm not askin' for much...ahh, well. Thursday is just going to be one long ass day, from 6 am till after midnight...
Friday and this weekend should be lovely, though. If I can just get through Thursday.....
Is it sad that with all else I have to do, I'm still looking forward to the 4 hour waste of time that is Culinary Lab tomorrow? Don't worry, I don't actually hate it- it's just that I consider anything that is not studying near an exam to be a waste of time. Other wastes of time include eating, sleeping, and showering, and going to class. running errands or leaving campus is right out. Anything that's not nose-in-a-book time, really. *sigh* I have less than 72 hours.
Anyway, 4 of them will be spent in lab, making fried veggies and veggie stir-fry. Yep, we're still on the whole "carbohydrates and their chemical reactions" kick. Me and my partner have been assigned to make vegetable tempura (which, thankfully was demonstrated in lecture today) and stir-fry asparagus with shiitake 'shrooms. Shouldn't be too bad. Everyone's freaking out at the "fried food" thing. I'll admit it-- the fry-o-lator scares me, it has since I was a child old enough to see the fry cook at McDonald's over the counter top-- I wondered how they could keep from getting burned by the hot fat splatters.
But i luuuurve veggie tempura, and I think lotus roots are the coolest looking veggies ever, and they gave a good lab demo today, and it didn't look that scary, so I'm willing to try it. The scary part is that you have to do tempura by the "swimming" method-- instead of just putting the peices in the basket and lowering it, you have to lower the basket first, then take each tempura peice and--holding it between your fingers-- gently lower the batter-coated peice halfway into the hot fat and "swim" it back and forth to give a preliminary fried coating, then let it go and it "floats" on top getting a nice, thin, even crust. I don't know about getting my fingers so close to that burning oil... that's a little weird, but .... I'll try it, I guess. I won't be the first one to ever do this technique, so it must be okay....
So, I kinda hope my lab partner lets me do that part- maybe I'll regret that by this time tomorrow, but whatever. I don't really care; stir fry is so easy, I'll be in like Flynn if he decides to give me the stir-fry instead.
okay, I just devoted wayyy too much time to talking about that.
Holy crap I have finance to do.
Thank goodness I work the night shift at the library and can check out the reserve textbooks overnight (sneaky, sneaky me, what awful abuse of authority!.....but hey, no one else came to check it out ,so it was fair game.)
Arg! When will my HP 12C financial calulator be here? I ordered it off eBay ages ago! *sigh* My kingdom for an HP 12C! hopefully it will be in my mailbox tomorrow. If I have time to go get it. mrr.
okay. *cracks books, leaves evil computer of procrastination*
