So, my interview this morning with the GM of Wit's End went really well. I think I totally got the job.... err, problem is, I don't know if I want the job, or even what the job would be, or what it pays. But the GM really liked me; he wants versatile people... and I'm fairly flexible and competant, which he seemed to appreciate.

Basically I would be living on a gorgeous ranch in Colorado all summer, bartending, working front desk, helping out with the kid's programs, maybe some waitressing, maybe some back-of house stuff, maybe some running for the horse trainers and wilderness guides.... did I mention this place is gorgeous? So beautiful, I think I can even put up with the good-ol-boys who come up to hunt and fish and will inevitably call me "little lady", or worse.
Which would be almost enough for me, except for that pesky need-to-pay-the-bills thing. I think what little help my parents started to give me since Christmas is about to disappear, including the last-resort-emergency-financial-help I used to be able to call on if i really really needed it, because my dad has some sudden financial problems. Oh well, this is why I try not to rely on them anyway.

So, major plusses:
-Gorgeous location, reconnect with wilderness- I *heart* Colorado
-good cross-training hospitality experience,
-gain understanding of the physicality of running a place like this which is so similar to what I want to build, it hurts
-get to play with the ranch activities like riding and fishing and stuff on days off,
-GM already likes me, and his parents are the owners

Major drawbacks:
-not near Texas, NY or California, so would be cut off from family and friends
-don't know what it pays yet (although if I get the bartending job, could be pretty good)
-"job" actually will be more like a lifestyle, so feeling of being trapped could ensue- i could go crazy if the job sucks

I probably won't end up taking the job even if I get an offer, unless the pay is really good and I don't find any better offers. But it was good interviewing practice.

And now, a lemming. With the exception of having Carrot Top for a brother (most annoying little brother EVER! ack!)I think it would be pretty cool.

If this is so, then I would think that you would really want to take this job. If you don't like the job for just a short time, how can you be sure you'll like it if/when you are able to build almost that exact same business? After all, a good business owner works at EVERY aspect of their business, so the stuff you ended up doing this year with this job is the same sort of stuff you'll end up doing at some point if you have your own ranch/business.

Just a thought.

Au contrare, dear! It's not at all a bad jaunt to get to Colorado from here. True, it's a bit more of a weekend trip than just an afternoon hop for tea, but it's still quite do-able. If I could find cheap accommodations, I'm sure Wamba and I would make the trip at least once - we're quite fond of Colorado, having gone there for our honeymoon and all.
