For Your Amusement
Apr. 6th, 2004 10:53 amDear Melissa (and everyone else)(but mostly melissa):
You should really check out Nellie McKay's new album, "Get Away From Me". It's a two CD set, and I got it retail for around $11 bucks, because she is an indie artist and trying to break into mainstream with a loss-leader value price, I assume. She is a fun and funky intelligent girl who reminds me of us. In fact, you were the first person I thought of when I listened to her in the store. I don't know why, but there's something... I dunno. I think you'd understand. She writes all her own songs, and most of them are pretty good. She has an amazing voice, low and silky-smooth one minute and young, brash, and in-your-face the next. She's not quite Tori or Ani, but she has a more old-school feel to her too, like ella fitzgerald meets the beatles. meets eminem. or something.
I wish I could let you hear my copy. I wish I could visit you instead of being tied up here. I think Nellie McKay is almost as exciting a find as One-Handed Molly, except not quite, she's good in a different sort of way, but right now she wins by a thin margin because she is still making music and OHM is tragically split up.
Grab the book nearest to you, turn to page 18, find line 4. Write down what it says. : "...connection between a good brew and a pleasurable meal."
Stretch your left arm out as far as you can. What do you touch first?: the shoulder of the guy sitting at the computer next to me.
What is the last thing you watched on TV? : the local weather report on the newschannel continuously blaring in Mac's cafe during breakfast.
WITHOUT LOOKING, guess what the time is. : 11:09
Now look at the clock, what is the actual time? : 11:10
With the exception of the computer, what can you hear? : other computers' keys clicking, networked printers whirring, the soft gossip of hotelies in the background
When did you last step outside? What were you doing? : This morning around 9:30ish, on my way to school (my early morning class was canceled today). Brrr.
Before you came to this website, what did you look at? : my cornell webmail account.
What are you wearing? : my favorite old skechers' sneakers, one tan and one blue sock (I haven't done laundry in a while, it was all I could find), red underwear, flesh-tone bra, blue jeans, lavender zip-hoodie, black HEC baseball cap, black sport watch, two gold rings, two silver earrings, and a necklace with a rutilated quartz pendant.
Did you dream last night? : Yes, a LOT. But I don't remember any of it well enough to articulate.
When did you last laugh? : In Chef's office, just a few minutes ago.
What is on the walls of the room you are in?: Metal hanging shelves full of expensive reference books that are not allowed to leave the library.
Seen anything weird lately? : no. which is kind of weird in itself...
What is the last film you saw? : The Italian Job (great movie!)
If you became a multi-millionaire overnight, what would you buy first? : freedom from debt.
Tell me something about you that I don't know. : My highschool music teachers thought I was going to apply to julliard and pursue a serious music career. So did I. So much for that; funny how plans change...
If you could change one thing about the world, regardless of guilt or politics, what would you do? : Stop sexual exploitation of children (child-sex-slave trade, child pornography, etc.)
Do you like to dance? : yes. can't promise I'm much good, but I like to.
George Bush: is he a power-crazy nut case or someone who is finally doing something that has needed to be done for years? : neither. but--ugh. politics. ugh ugh ugh.
gonna just stop right there, before I talk myself into a hole.
Imagine your first child is a girl, what do you call her? : Ariel, Jade or Mercy.
Imagine your first child is a boy, what do you call him? : Alex, Jett or Max.
Would you ever consider living abroad? : Yep! Of course. Besides, the way things are going here...
On a good note, Chef both hired me AND waved the stay-through-the-end-of-commencement requirement for me because of my situation. So now I officially work for Statler kitchen. Yay! I feel like I just joined ye bonney pirate crewe. as the cabin boy. heheh. ah well, whatever. it's extra moolah in my pocket, and experience that counts toward my required hospitality hours for graduation. Speaking of which, this weekend is Easter weekend, which means the kitchen will be busybusy, which means I'll pick up some good hours right off the bat. :)
And now, a list of anime smileys.

Also, everyone who is a geek or has geeky friends and loved ones(and that will include most, if not all, of my friends list) should check this link out: The Official Geek Heirarchy
It's hilarious, because it's scarily accurate.
I got if off Neil Gaiman's blog, which, I will admit, I am geeky enough to subscribe to in syndicate form on my friend's list.
hmmm...I wonder where that puts me in the hierarchy?
